I had mostly forgotten about this picture taken at a hotel in Florida. They had replaced the standard buttons found in an elevator with this nice Windows based touch screen system that showed both the numbers of the floor to control the elevator and wonderful Sea World advertising! Only, were we to meet our Doom half way up to our room on the 15th floor???

In all seriousness though, I still fail to understand why companies that use Microsoft Windows on their desktop every single day insist on placing windows in embedded, and mission critical environments. Maybe it is because they are familiar with the name, but common sense should step in and say if my windows has to be rebooted twice a day then My elevator will need to be rebooted 10.
